It`s back-to-school time, but imagine the horrible feeling of knowing your child can`t go back to school. He is on the brink of death--fighting to stay alive.
This was a tragic reality for the Test-Balsley family last year. Their six-year-old son, Rain, was playing when he collapsed and lost consciousness. Having never been seriously sick, he was now rushed by ambulance to the hospital.
Rain was diagnosed with a rare heart disease. Even worse, there was no cure. Rain had a pacemaker implanted to try and stabilize his heart until hopefully he could get a new one. Rain needed a transplant. He weakened daily, but Rain kept fighting.
Five months of waiting and still no heart for Rain. His condition worsened and Rain had to be hospitalized again--for five long weeks. Finally the call came--a heart was available. It was a perfect match.
Today, Rain is back at play and excited about going back to school. Through NFT, his family has help with the costs of the critical ongoing care to keep his new heart healthy.
