Human Interest Story

The CFIDS Association of America is the nation`s leading charitable organization committed to a vision of a world without chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Our Mission - "For CFS to be widely understood, diagnosable, curable and preventable." - is the driving force behind all of our programs.

We want to offer more than hope to patients and their families, whose lives have been so altered by this illness. We want to be able to offer physicians tools to objectively diagnose, then effectively treat, this illness. Until we have a cure, that`s the next important step. Suzanne Vernon, PhD, Scientific Director, CFIDS Association of America

CFS, also known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome or CFIDS, is a serious and often misunderstood illness that strikes people from all age, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. CFS is characterized by crushing fatigue and cognitive problems, and accompanied by flu-like symptoms such as joint and muscle pain, unrefreshing sleep, sore throat, nausea, dizziness and severe headache.

"I spoke about CFS research at a Town Hall meeting held by my congressman…I was stunned when the audience broke into applause when I finished!...I feel like I brought awareness to the hundreds of people sitting in the auditorium. It was such an empowering experience; I can`t wait to do it again." - C.F., Campbell, California

The Association is working diligently to expand public and private support of CFS research to advance progress at a faster pace. We hope you will join our efforts today! Visit www.cfids.org for more information.
